As a local public works agency headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the Franklin County Engineer's Office is responsible for the maintenance and construction of 271 miles of county roadway and 351 county bridges, as well as upkeep of all county ditches, drains, retention basins, and other storm water facilities within the right-of-way of county roads in unincorporated areas. To meet the continuing development and infrastructure needs of Franklin County, the Engineer's Office utilizes the latest technologies for determining and maintaining roadway centerlines and boundaries; retracing and setting new monuments for original public land surveys; preparing geographic information system mapping for real estate tax assessments; and establishing precise countywide horizontal and vertical control to maintain uniformity in construction, surveying, and mapping.

Cooke Road, between Cleveland Avenue and Walford Street, is closed for full-depth reconstruction and the addition of pedestrian facilities. The closure will last approximately seventy-five (75) days, weather permitting.

Williams Road, over I-270 between Marsha Drive and Walnut Crossing Drive, is closed for bridge rehabilitation work for approximately ninety (90) days, weather permitting. This is not an FCEO project. It is being administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). We are sharing this information to inform the public of the closure.

Bridge & Highway Design

The Bridge and Highway Design Department provides a variety of engineering services that ensure the safe operation and structural integrity of the county’s bridges and roadways. Their duties include managing the production of construction plans and cost estimates prepared by engineering consultants and department staff; inspecting and inventorying bridges, culverts, and roadways; creating plans for county maintenance operations; analyzing hydraulic conditions for ditch petitions and floodway adequacy studies; implementing quality control standards to meet state and federal regulations; and supplying technical assistance to other departments and public entities. For more information, please contact Jim Pajk, P.E., Deputy Design Engineer.
