Alkire Road Reconstruction and Railroad Overpass Replacement

Managed by the Franklin County Engineer's Office

Location: Harrisburg Pike (U.S. Rt. 62) to Creekside Drive.

Description: Reconstruction and widening of the roadway to accommodate east and westbound lanes, a center turn lane, bike lane, and partial sidewalk; and replacement of the railroad overpass. 

Status: Utility line relocation work is under way. Construction could start as early as this August.

Traffic: Alkire Road will be closed to through traffic.

The posted detour route for eastbound motorists will follow Southwestern Road north to Demorest Road, north to Clime Road, east to Harrisburg Pike, and south to Alkire Road.

Westbound traffic will follow the detour route in the opposite direction.   

Contractor: Shelly & Sands, Inc.

Cost: $6,134,000.25 to be funded by the Federal Highway Administration, through the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, and the Ohio Public Works Commission.

Scheduled Completion: November 2011.
