Clime Road to be Open for Eastbound Travel Only until Mid-November during Widening and Reconstruction Work

Franklin County , Ohio --- Dean C. Ringle , P.E., P.S., Franklin County Engineer, announces that eastbound travel on Clime Road , between Harrisburg Pike (U.S. Rt. 62) and Demorest Road, will resume on or about March 16, 2009. The roadway was closed to through traffic on February 16, 2009 for the replacement of a culvert spanning a tributary to Big Run, which is part of the over-all widening and reconstruction of Clime Road.

“The maintenance of a single eastbound traffic lane will give construction crews sufficient space to safely rebuild the north side of Clime Road while enabling through travel,” said Dean Ringle. “Completion of the north side by mid-November will permit two-way travel as the south side is rebuilt.”

Two detour routes will be posted for motorists on Harrisburg Pike wishing to travel west on Clime Road. From the north, westbound traffic will follow Briggs Road west to Demorest Road, and south to Clime Road. From the south, westbound traffic will follow Alkire Road west to Southwestern Road, north to Demorest Road, and north to Clime Road.

Clime Road motorists should allow extra time to reach their destinations,” said Dean Ringle. "Travel within the construction and detour route areas will be slower than normal, particularly during rush hour periods.”

Clime Road improvements include reconstruction and widening of the roadway to accommodate east and westbound lanes, a center turn lane, and two bike lanes; construction of storm sewers, curbing, gutters, driveway aprons, sidewalks, and a water line; and installation of new street lighting and traffic signage.

The Franklin County Engineer’s Office is supervising the building of this $7.9 million project by George J. Igel & Company. Funding is being provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the Ohio Public Works Commission through the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission.

Completion of the Clime Road widening and reconstruction project is scheduled for August 2010.
