Drivers to Saddle Up for Franklin
County’s 24th Annual Snow Fighter Roadeo
Franklin
County, Ohio
---
Dean C. Ringle
, P.E., P.S., Franklin County Engineer announces that he will host Franklin
County’s 24th Annual Snow Fighter Roadeo on Thursday, October 15, from 8:00
a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the parking lot adjacent to the Eddie Bauer Warehouse
Store located at 4599 Fisher Road. About 100 snow plow drivers from the
engineer’s office and municipal and township public works departments will
compete.
“Our annual roadeo is an
outstanding opportunity for snow plow drivers to hone their skills,” said Dean
Ringle. “Participants are judged for their abilities to maneuver through a
difficult obstacle course, and in backing their vehicles. It is our goal to
prepare the drivers for every type of on-the-road situation and hazard.”
Other competitions at the
roadeo involve the operation of front-end loaders, backhoes, and skid steers.
“To ensure our readiness
for winter, all county drivers must also complete a comprehensive classroom and
on-the-road training program,” said Dean Ringle. “We cover everything from
vehicle operation and maintenance to personal health topics.”
During inclement weather,
102 Franklin County Engineer Snow Fighters work from four regional headquarters
in two twelve-hour shifts. They combat hazardous snow and ice conditions on more
than 800 lane miles of county roads and municipal thoroughfares, and provide
salt to 23 communities and public entities.
