New Curve Warning Signs to be Tested on Three Franklin County Roads, Iowa State University to Monitor Results

Sign installation on Pontius Road

Franklin County, Ohio --- Dean C. Ringle , P.E., P.S., Franklin County Engineer, in association with Iowa State University, announces that new solar-powered curve warning signs will be tested on Alkire Road (west of Alton Road), Pontius Road (south of Hayes Road), and Norton Road (south of Johnson Road) and that the results will be studied by the university.

“We are working with the Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University to determine if the illuminated signs will help to lower vehicular speeds and off-road accident rates on rural routes with speed limits of 50 mph or more,” said Dean Ringle. “The signs will be installed this week at previous crash locations and then monitored for their effectiveness over the next two years.”

The sign installation and study is being funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration in coordination with Iowa State University and the sign manufacturer, Dorman Varitext of Bath, Ontario, Canada. The signs are also being tested in Florida and Arizona.
